If your really looking for an adventure then you’ve got to check out San Diego Zoo Safari Park, formally Wild Animal Park. The park is located in the back end of Escondido and sits on 1,800 acres in the heart of San Pasqual Valley. The terrain was designed to accommodate thousands of animals from lions, elephants, rhinos, gazelles, mountain goats and more. 


The theme is Safari making it a great stop for who’ve always wanted to go for a real safari ride. Tours are offered to get up close and personal with the animals as they ride through in a large open vehicle just like you would see in Africa. The area it self is truly breathtaking as the beautiful valley surrounds you. If your looking for a more relaxed viewing for these animals try jumping on the Tram that takes you directly around the entire valley. 


San Diego Zoo Safari Park prides itself on educating the public about conversation and protecting these precious animals through talk with the animals. Every hour or so, a zoologist will come out with a different animal to talk to folks directly about them. This a great way to learn first hand about these extraordinary as you get a chance to see them up close.  


Those with small children can go visit the petting zoo where they have wondering goats and sheep that are waiting for attention. Another wonderful spot in the park is Lorikeet Landing where you can purchase nectar cups and feed hundreds of lorikeet birds that are flying about. Watch as these small green parrots land right on your arms to lap up the sweet nectar, it’s an experience like no other. You’ll need a good pair of walking shoes if you head up to see the condors located in the highest part of the valley. Then zip line down for an exciting thrill along the base of the park.  


Take a stroll through the beautiful botanical gardens that display unique flowers and interesting plants. Towards the center to of the park you’ll find the gorillas that live in a grand opening that looks like a scene straight out of Africa. Get a kick out of the lemurs that jump from rope to rope, feed the ducks and swans near the waters edge. 


For a roaring good time, check out the lions den down by the Safari camp. These lions get a chance to really live in their natural surrounding, they still love to lounge around all day. Near by there’s an exciting play area for kids who can get their feet or run about in the grassy knolls. Set your sights high for a giant balloon ride that holds a large group for top views for the park. 

The park offers plenty of drinks; beer is served in certain areas for the adults while kids can get a slushy to cool them down. Small restaurants cook up tasty food for those who want to sit down and relax, along with yummy snacks for those who are still on the move. You’ll find an array of gift shops that can be found in each area you enter providing many local art creations that signify San Diego. 



At San Diego Zoo Safari Park you’ll discover that all of the animals live in harmony with plenty of room to roam.
